I Have a Voice: Personal Narrative Poetry

This two-hour generative writing workshop will explore personal history in a safe and supportive environment to create original pieces of writing. Participants will have the opportunity to write 2-3 new pieces of writing as well as share their writing with each other. We will discuss self identity, heritage, and personal history while exploring the work of Ada Limon, Rita Dove, Maya Angelou, among others.

Open to all levels of writers, no prior writing experience necessary.

Led by Susan Buttenwieser, author of the short story collection, We Were Lucky with the Rain (Four Way Books). Her writing has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize and appeared in numerous literary publications. She contributes news features regularly to Women’s Media Center and teaches creative writing at New York City public schools in high-poverty neighborhoods, with incarcerated women and older adults.
