In this workshop, we will think about how shifting our focus from the bigger elements of a poem (line, sentence, and stanza) to the smaller units of composition (the letter and the word) can invigorate our writing practice. To do this, we will read and discuss examples from poets Inger Christensen (trans. Susanna Nied), Carolyn Forché, Harryette Mullen, and Claire Wahmanholm, then get to work writing our own poetry, letter by letter and word by intentional word.
